ROAD TRIP PART 6: On the Road Again!

So Austin ROCKED, but there is a MUCH bigger adventure ahead of us.... the ultimate destination: New Orleans!!!! First we drive from Austin to San Antonio to check out the Alamo, but decide to drive straight through once we were there. Way too crowded, no place to park. So, on to Houston where Malia has a cousin we will stay with. Malia decides to take the back roads, looking for small town sight seeing. And we got a whole lot of that!

En Route we stop off in the small town of 'Thump'. Somewhere, Texas. It just happened to be a local holiday where the girls compete for Miss Thump and are all wearing sashes and crowns. And the theme of the town is watermelon so there is melon everywhere. Like, straight out of a movie..

A movie that I definitely would like to walk away from after an hour or so but it was cool for a bathroom break!

I love that you can see legs in the shirt... something dirty about that

We did a little shopping before hitting the road

And the locals were great!
Another bathroom break along the way....
uh doesn't look like the plumbing works... ha good thing we stole t.p. from the last hotel!

We made it to Houston and had a great night. Malia's cousin and her husband want to start a brewery and are beer experts, brew their own at home and all.

And in that extreme insane Texas heat we needed strong drink! Really, I'd take one step out of my car and immediately brake a sweat in the sizzling 100 degree temperature +humidity. My last car had no A/C. I am so lucky for METALLICAR, a really fantastic ride.

We hit up some guitar shops there.... I soon hope to stock HEAVY LEATHER NYC in Rock 'n' Robin (below photos), Evan's Music City, Fuller Vintage Guitars and Parker Music. If you live in the area, DEMAND to see the straps there! ;)
GUITAR HEAVEN.
MY STRAPS WOULD LOOK SOOOOOO RAD NEXT TO THESE GUITARS!!!!!!

The following day we hit the road again on our way to New Orleans. We downloaded this AWESOME app called Roadside America that told us there was a gas station we absolutely had to stop at (or we might end up hitchhiking to our next destination!). Called Tiger Truck Stop.
It had a live full size tiger in a giant cage just hanging out. DUDE.

Call me tiger! RAaaaWWWW!

YeesssSSS!

The highways to New Orleans were lined with all sorts of fun stuff. Check out this snake farm. A quick off road adventure. Because we are LOADED on caffeine and need to pee again. Really? We are going to 'drain the lizard' at the snake farm?!? hahahaha.

This place is SO creepy. Look at that cage? Reminds me of Pulp fiction.... the basement scene. AGh.

The minute we hit Louisiana we stopped at a lake and jumped in. Pretty much any water hole we'd stop at, it was sooo hot. The highways getting there were rad. Check out this one built above a swamp. We were on this for a while....

NEXT ROAD STORY- NEEEEEEEEEW ORLEANS! WOOO!

  2. Assholes. How would you like to live in a cage. You people make me sick. You have no right to cage up a beautiful tiger and keep him confined for the rest of his life. I am sure it is very hot there, but as long as you have customers, you are good at the expense of a Tiger that belongs to the wild.
I hope you rot in hell.

  3. I'm glad you had a great road trip. Perhaps you could now join the effort to give Tony a road trip of his own. In your surprise at seeing a live tiger at a truck stop, you may not have realized Tony has lived his entire ten years in that cage. He's never had a breath of fresh air, only breathing exhaust fumes. He's never had a night of sleep in pure darkness; lights are on around him 24 hours a day. Please join the fight to allow Tony a road trip to Big Cat Rescue, where he will never again have to satisfy tourist curiosity.

  6. I am glad you can enjoy your freedom to ride & roam. Wouldn't it be great if Tony the Tiger could enjoy freedom also? He has spent his entire life in that cage, surrounded by cement, noise and fumes. This is no life for a tiger. Please add your support to Free Tony the Tiger and his right to have freedom at a sanctuary.

  7. what the hell is wrong with you? have you absolutely no compassion? were you dropped on your head as a child? how would you like it if you were the one locked up in that cage for tourists to gawk at??? course the cage would have to be at least 1/4 that size so that you would feel cramped like tony does. tigers are cool! cool in the wild or a sanctuary. especially when you consider that there is only about 3200 in the world anymore. dumbass!!!

  9. You guys have taken some great memorable photos of your roadtrip. I do the same each time I travel. I understand you might've not realized at the time that Tony The Tiger needs to be FREE of that cage. I hope with all the other links given you, that you'll be enlightened as to the plight of freeing Tony. Hopefully you'll add an update to your blog that you've been made aware of the story behind Tony. Please post and help us with freeing Tony. Thanks!

  10. That tigers name is Tony, and he happens to be in rather bad condition. Hes stuck in a cage inadequate for any living creature, let alone a full grown tiger. It is terrible to hold such wonderful creatures in captivity at all, but to keep one in such a way as Tony is being kept is down right horrible. Its made all the worse by the fact that animal rights group and supporters have found a real home for him at BCR, an accredited big cat sanctuary where he would be properly taken care of with a great enclosure and vet care. Instead he paces a concrete floor. Dude.

  11. He is not just'hanging out'. He is not there for the fun of it. He is living a life of hell that he should not have to. Use your blog to help free him, not to sensationalise the fact that he is trapped there until something is done to help him.

  12. I'm sure you've seen by now there is movement on Free Tony the Tiger.....dot he right thing - that tiger would be much happier and "cooler" in an environment where he can run!

  13. Tony the Tiger isn't an "attraction" it is an atrocity. Join the fight to free him. You've seen his condition first hand and must realize that such a beautiful animal deserves a beautiful life.

  14. This is the 21st century.... The exploitation of animals as road side attractions belong back in the Dark Ages... Maybe if you travel back through Grosse Tete, LA, you'll stop and take another look at Tony, and think of what his life has been like for the past decade. His owner refuses to let Tony be moved to an accredited animal sanctuary. He claims it is "his right" to keep Tony by a truck stop parking lot, inhaling noxious gas fumes night and day, just to act as a form of gimmick advertisement for the gas station.... what about Tony's right, as a member of an endangered species, to a meaningful, humane, and healthy life???

  15. You are a waste of oxygen for enjoying the suffering of that animal. I hope you die young.

  16. very well put. i hope you die young as well

  17. Agree that this is NOT a good life for Tony but Im guessing these guys on a road trip just didn't think of that. You get more flies with honey than vinegar so let's try to use positive "vents" to make these guys see how un-cool Tony's life really is. They DO have a blog reaching lots of folks so use it to Tony's advantage to help him move to an animal sanctuary. That could be a new road trip for these guys!
